Nika Melia sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison for offending court
Nika Melia, one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, has been imposed a prison sentence for a term of 1 year and 6 months for disrespect and offence of the court. Judge Nino Elieshvili announced the decision.
Nika Melia was imposed imprisonment for verbally abusing Tornike Kochkiani, a judge of the Administrative Cases Chamber.
The verdict made against Nika Melia today superseded his previous sentence, and he will leave prison in December 2026.
For the record, Nika Melia was previously charged under Part 2, Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (disrespect of court, offending a judge), which carries a penalty of up to two years in prison.
