Remittances to Georgia up 11.6% in May, reaching $317.4M

In May 2025, Georgia received $317.4 million in remittances—an increase of 11.6% ($33.1 million) compared to May 2024, according to data released by the National Bank of Georgia (NBG).

Over the first five months of 2025, the total volume of remittances reached $1.4 billion.

The latest NBG statistics show that the largest share of remittances—44.1% or $140.1 million—came from European Union countries. Among EU member states, Italy, Germany, and Greece were the leading sources, with an overall annual growth rate of 16.0%.

The report also highlights a continued upward trend in remittances from the United States, which grew by 25.2% year-on-year in May, reaching $59.1 million.

Conversely, remittances from the Russian Federation declined by 9.2% year-on-year, totalling $43.7 million in May.

Meanwhile, $35.2 million (96.5 million GEL) was transferred abroad from Georgia in May 2025, marking a 16.8% increase compared to May 2024, when the figure stood at $30.1 million.
