Public Defender visits detainees, compiles documentation for all incidents involving excessive force
After visiting those detained at yesterday’s rally, Georgian Public Defender Levan Ioseliani reported that 22 of the 25 detainees had experienced ill-treatment.
“We compiled the relevant documentation for all incidents involving excessive force and forwarded it to the Special Investigation Service,” Ioseliani said, noting that “no law enforcement personnel has been subjected to abuse of power or violence, which is a significant concern.”
“Today, my representatives and I visited all imprisoned individuals, both in and outside of Tbilisi.
We visited 25 persons, and 22 of them reported ill-treatment, which I believe is an alarming statistic.
The most essential thing is that those who committed specific, alleged offences were prosecuted.
This is a critical issue that the Special Investigation Service must address,” Ioseliani added.
