Georgian Public Defender Levan Ioseliani engaged with Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in Tbilisi, Alan Purcell, to review the human rights situation in Georgia.
According to the Public Defender’s Office, Levan Ioseliani familiarized Alan Purcell with the recent amendments to Georgian legislation on Assembly, Manifestation, and Freedom of Expression, as well as his viewpoints and the Public Defender’s Office’s remarks.
Levan Ioseliani spoke about the Public Defender’s involvement in the discussion of the initiated draft law on the Rehabilitation and Support of Underage in Conflict with the Law.
“The legal situation of individuals detained during protests and prisoners, and the results of monitoring the ongoing court proceedings against them were also discussed,” the Public Defender’s Office said.
Deputy Public Defenders Tamar Gvaramaze and Elene Ghudushauri and the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) Program Officer of the Embassy, Jamie Shufflebarger, and Legal Affairs Specialist Ekaterine Popkhadze attended the meeting.
