Protesters leave area near Presidential Palace
The protesters have vacated the vicinity of Georgia’s Presidential Palace on Atoneli Street.
Currently, cleaning crews are working at the site, while law enforcement officers continue to patrol Atoneli Street.
As a reminder, Paata Burchuladze, leader of the Rustaveli Avenue movement, delivered the “October 4 Declaration” and an “Arrest List” during the rally at Freedom Square, declaring a transitional period for the country.
Meanwhile, Murtaz Zodelava, a member of the United National Movement, addressed the crowd, stating: “Today, the masculine power will begin to act; we will gather and get the keys to the Presidential Palace.”
Following this statement, the protesters moved towards the Presidential Palace. Some of them breached security barriers, damaged parts of the palace building, and attempted to force entry.
Objects such as stones and various debris were hurled at law enforcement officers present at the scene. Additionally, protesters set fire to several items in the vicinity of the palace.
Authorities issued warnings for the protesters to disperse, warning that legal action would be taken if they did not comply. In response, law enforcement used special measures, including water cannons, tear gas, and pepper spray, to disperse the crowd.
Currently, some protesters remain on Rustaveli Avenue.
