Protest erupts outside judges' corporate party at Babilo restaurant
A protest is underway near the Babilo restaurant in Tbilisi, where a corporate party for judges is being held.
Demonstrators brought photos of citizens arrested and injured during previous protests, along with banners reading, “Freedom to the prisoners of the regime.”
Dimitri Gvritishvili, a judge and member of the Supreme Council of Justice, addressed journalists. “Judges have the right to meet for a corporate event at least once a year,” he said.
Gvritishvili expressed confidence in his colleagues’ professionalism, stating, “I am certain that judges make decisions based on evidence and the specific circumstances of each case. I cannot know individual cases my colleagues handle, but according to my information, all decisions are made under the law.”
He also commented on the protests, saying, “Everyone has the right to protest, but this does not mean others should halt their lives.”
On the topic of sanctions, Gvritishvili added, “We have always criticized the so-called sanctions. No one is afraid of sanctions.”
