Prosecutor’s Office: Investigation into recording case was launched on basis of application of employee of Penitentiary Service, who claims that was blackmailed
The investigation on the case has begun on the basis of the statement of the Special Penitentiary Service employee I.P. according to which on October 12 of this year he was blackmailed and pressured: by threatening to disclose depicting shots of personal life, – the Chief Prosecutor’s Office made a special statement in that regard today.
The statement of the Prosecutor’s Office reads as follows:
“The Chief Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia once again explains, that on audio recording, supposedly of M.S. V.J. D.Ts, investigative activities began on October 12, 2018, before the record was broadcasted by one of the media means.
At this stage the investigation is underway on the criminal case about illegaly obtaining and storing the secrets of personal life, coerce, unauthorized recording of the private conversation of the person being in custody, and on the fact of storing recording illegaly, ensuring availability and of possible abuse of power, the main share of the offence comes on the crimes under 1st part of the article 150, 1st part of the article 1571, 1st and 2nd part of the article 158 and 1st part of the article 333 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
The investigation on the case has begun on the basis of the statement of the Special Penitentiary Service employee I.P. according to which on October 12 of this year he was blackmailed and pressured: by threatening to disclose depicting shots of personal life required civilian I.P. to disseminate secret recording of prisoner M.S.’s meetings.
Within the framework of investigation, the memory card is seized from the I.P, which contains some secret records, including that file, which was disseminated by media means yesterday. For the purpose of determining authenticity relevant expertise will be conducted on all records.
Within the framework of investigation, all necessary investigative and procedural actions are undertaken, as to expose all the persons in connection with this crime, as well as on possible criminal facts spoken in secret audio recordings broadcasted by the media.
At the same time, based on the first analysis of the audio recording, the investigation is intensively reviewing the version of organizing concrete content conversations by group of persons for their further dissemination.
Due to the interests of the investigation, at this stage the Prosecutor’s office does not publicise all audio recordings obtained during the investigation process. However, due to high public interest, the Prosecutor’s Office will intensively inform the society about the progress of the investigation”, – the statement of Prosecutor’s Office reads.
