Prosecutorial Council starts selection for Prosecutor General

The Prosecutorial Council has initiated the process of nominating a candidate for Prosecutor General following the early termination of the incumbent’s powers. In accordance with recent amendments to the Organic Law of Georgia “On the Prosecutor’s Office,” the nomination process must be completed within one week.

According to the Council, members discussed the legislative changes requiring that a candidate be submitted to Parliament within the legally established timeframe. Under the new rules, each Council member may nominate one candidate. A nominee is considered supported if they receive a majority vote from the full composition of the Prosecutorial Council.

The Council is then required to submit the selected candidate, along with a justification, to the Parliament of Georgia.

The next session of the Prosecutorial Council is scheduled for June 17, during which members will present their nominees.
