Prosecutor General of Georgia holds high-level talks with IAP Secretary General

Georgia’s Prosecutor General, Giorgi Gvarakidze, has met in Tbilisi with Roel Dona, Secretary General of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP), who is currently on an official visit to the country.

Senior Deputy Prosecutor General Kakhaberr Muradashvili, Liaison Prosecutor to Eurojust Irakli Chilingarashvili, Head of International Relations Giorgi Mikava, Head of Administration Ketevan Kvinikadze, and IAP Executive Programme Manager Irina Beridze also attended the bilateral meeting at the Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, both sides highlighted the longstanding and fruitful partnership between the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia and the IAP, outlined specific avenues for future cooperation, and reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing joint initiatives.

“We had a highly constructive and businesslike meeting focusing on our active engagement within the global association. Georgia contributes significant human capital to the IAP. We discussed strategic priorities for future collaboration, as well as the prospect of hosting a major regional IAP conference here in Georgia,” said Prosecutor General Giorgi Gvarakidze.

IAP Secretary General Roel Dona thanked Gvarakidze for the warm hospitality and the country’s sustained contribution to the association.

“It is both a pleasure and a privilege to be back in Georgia. We had an excellent discussion with the Prosecutor General. Georgia remains one of the most valued members of the International Association of Prosecutors. Over many years, you have provided indispensable support in organising conferences and delivering professional development initiatives, including specialised training modules and capacity-building webinars. Reconnecting with old friends and exploring our future potential together has been wonderful,” Dona noted.

As part of his official itinerary, Dona also visited the Tbilisi District Prosecutor’s Office. Deputy Prosecutor General Avtandil Kochlamazashvili, Chief Prosecutor of Tbilisi Giorgi Mikaia, and senior representatives from the Georgian Prosecutor’s Office attended that delegation meeting.

The International Association of Prosecutors represents more than 183 prosecution agencies and thousands of individual prosecutors across 180 countries. Georgian Prosecutor’s Office joined as an organisational member in 2011, establishing close operational links in 2014. In May 2018, a Georgian representative was elected to the IAP Executive Committee, giving the country a direct voice in the association’s governing body.
