Private sector proposals for reducing consumer product prices heard at today's meeting, says Economy Minister

“At today’s meeting, we have already heard the first tangible initiatives, including from the private sector, on how the private sector envisages the path to reducing prices on consumer products,” Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivisvhili stated following a meeting with distribution company representatives within the Cross-Government Coordination Commission on Food Prices.

According to Mariam Kvrivishvili, the Government welcomes such initiatives.

“The second meeting with private sector representatives was quite productive and constructive. We can confidently say that all, approximately 8-9 factors, which the state identified through research as factors affecting the increase in consumer product prices, were confirmed by the end of our meeting today, and private sector representatives had an identical position on each point.

Accordingly, as a result of a proper and effective response to these environmental factors, we recognise that there are resources available to help reduce prices on consumer products. It is encouraging that, at today’s meeting, we have already heard the first tangible initiative, including one from the private sector, detailing how the private sector envisions the path to lowering consumer prices. We warmly welcome such initiatives.

The commission’s task is to reduce prices on consumer products. Accordingly, the initiatives voiced today will be studied in detail by the commission so that we can establish the extent to which these initiatives are sufficient for prices to be reduced to the level and on the scale that is in the interests of every citizen of our country,” Mariam Kvrivishvili stated.
