President’s Parliamentary Secretary dubs CEC-related draft as attempt to limit President's constitutional rights

President’s Parliamentary Secretary Giorgi Mskhiladze believes that the draft related to the Central Election Commission (CEC) is an attempt to limit the president’s constitutional rights as much as possible.

Mskhiladze says since Salome Zourabichvili became president, ten competitions have been organized in the president’s office with no faults or violations.

“The decision’s motivation is unclear. Perhaps the goal is to limit the president’s constitutional rights as much as possible,” Mskhiladze said.

The Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee on Monday will consider the CEC-related draft in the second reading, under which the Speaker, rather than the President, selects candidates for CEC chairmanship and membership.
