For Georgia’s Sharashidze: GD relies on UNM and Saakashvili to stay afloat; if Saakashvili has any sense, he should hold his tongue

“Georgian Dream today relies entirely on the United National Movement and Saakashvili,” stated MP Giorgi Sharashidze, a member of the Gakharia For Georgia party.

According to Sharashidze, Mikheil Saakashvili continually hands Georgian Dream a pretext on a plate, allowing the ruling party to weaponise his letters to fuel its own propaganda machine.

“This is the unfortunate reality in which we find ourselves. Naturally, restoring trust is vital, and if Saakashvili calls that into question, he directly bolsters state propaganda. This is hardly the first instance, and it remains a tragic reality. Naturally, I disagree with Saakashvili. Beyond the fact that restoring our territorial integrity depends on Georgia’s democratic development and European trajectory, it also hinges on rebuilding trust. We are all too aware of the deep wounds and pain that exist, but there is no need to reopen those scars time and again. Instead, we ought to focus on restoring Georgia’s territorial integrity through peaceful means. Georgian Dream offers the public a pseudo-patriotic narrative, striving to villainise the UNM to paint itself in a favourable light. If Saakashvili has any sense, he ought to remain silent on occasion or refrain from making statements that ultimately serve to strengthen Georgian Dream,” Giorgi Sharashidze declared.
