Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili has held a meeting in Astana with the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Presidential Press Office has announced.

The two sides discussed the deepening of bilateral relations and cooperation across a range of sectors.

At the meeting, President Kavelashvili noted that the Middle Corridor holds significant potential for expansion and that concerted joint efforts are required to develop this route. It was also noted that the longstanding friendship binding the two countries across numerous fields now calls for the formalisation of a strategic partnership document.

Mikheil Kavelashvili extended his gratitude to the Kazakhstani President for Kazakhstan’s unwavering support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Georgian President also congratulated Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the successful organisation of the referendum on the adoption of a new constitution. He expressed confidence that it would further reinforce statehood, enhance the effectiveness of institutions, and, under Tokayev’s leadership, foster sustainable socio-economic development.

President Kavelashvili is in Astana as part of the Regional Ecological Summit. The Georgian delegation includes Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture Davit Songhulashvili, Head of the Presidential Administration Ketevan Kvinikadze, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Aleksandre Khvtisiashvili.
