MP Matikashvili: No one has right to interfere with independence of Georgia’s judiciary
“Mykyta Poturaiev is a close friend of Mikheil Saakashvili. It is obvious that a friend of Saakashvili cannot be a friend of Georgia,” David Matikashvili, a member of the parliamentary majority, said.
Matikashvili was commenting on a statement by OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President Mykyta Poturaiev, who called on the Georgian authorities to ensure that political parties and civil society can freely exercise their rights.
Matikashvili also stressed that no one has the right to interfere with the independence of Georgia’s judiciary.
“Mykyta Poturaiev is known for signing the document that served as the basis for banning dozens of political parties in Ukraine. He is a close friend of Mikheil Saakashvili. It is now obvious that a friend of Mikheil Saakashvili cannot be a friend of Georgia, and this requires no further proof.
The double standards displayed by Mykyta Poturaiev amount to an attack on the country’s sovereignty and judicial system, which must naturally be condemned. No one has the right to interfere with the independence of our country’s judiciary,” Matikashvili said.
