A theatrical performance of “Darispan’s Trouble,” featuring inmates from Penitentiary Institution No. 16, was held at the Kote Marjanishvili State Drama Theatre, the Special Penitentiary Service repoted.

The production was organized by the Special Penitentiary Service as part of a grant project by Creative Georgia, a legal entity of public law under the Ministry of Culture, with the support of the Innovative Creativity Center.

The project aims to showcase inmates’ creative potential, develop their skills and abilities, and encourage their active participation in cultural life.

Work on the performance at Penitentiary Institution No. 16 continued for several months. The inmates themselves were responsible for the direction, musical and artistic design, and props. The one-act comedy features 12 inmates and six professional actors.

Initiatives of this kind contribute to the rehabilitation and resocialization of accused and convicted persons, help them maintain contact with the outside world, and support their full reintegration into society after release.

Following the performance, the inmates received crosses and certificates from the Georgian Orthodox Church, signed by Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Archbishop of Mtskheta-Tbilisi, and Metropolitan of Pitsunda and Tskhum-Abkhazia Shio III.

The event was attended by Justice Minister Paata Salia, deputy ministers, the head of the Special Penitentiary Service, invited guests and family members of the inmates.

The information was released by the Special Penitentiary Service.
