Parulava: Targeting Gakharia over Chorchana checkpoint undermines state interests

The proceedings underway at the Constitutional Court are a deliberate move by Georgian Dream directed not only against individual political parties, but also against society and those who hold different opinions, Giga Parulava, a member of the Gakharia for Georgia party, said.

According to Parulava, Georgian Dream is using its constitutional lawsuit in an attempt to eliminate dissenting voices in the country.

“The proceedings we have witnessed as part of this lawsuit also represent a step taken against the country’s interests. Georgian Dream has brought specific allegations, including against our party.

“In the Chorchana case, our party is accused of the fact that Giorgi Gakharia established a Georgian checkpoint in 2019 in the village of Chorchana, on territory controlled by Georgia. Georgian Dream now presents this as a crime and is using it as grounds to demand the dissolution of our party. Naturally, this is a move directed not only against our party, but also against the state interests of our country,” Farulava said.
