President Kavelashvili: Georgia has always aspired to be part of Europe
“No one will support us if we ourselves do not defend the interests of our country,” said the President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili.
According to the President, Georgia’s stability and peace are largely the result of the fact that the majority of the population is well informed about the challenges the country currently faces, including those related to the European Union.
“Years ago, when we began openly informing society, including our supporters, it caused concern and questions as to why we were speaking so directly. Today, however, the full picture of the challenges posed by globalization has become even clearer—challenges we had analyzed in advance. The key factor was that our society was prepared for these developments, which are now also evident in relation to the European Union, its bureaucratic governance, and a certain level of confrontation with the United States.
In such a situation, vigilance is especially important. All citizens of Georgia must be even better informed. We should assess the results objectively. What has ensured stability and peace in our country is that the majority of Georgian society was aware of the challenges unfolding today in relations involving the European Union, as well as tensions between various international bureaucratic structures.
This understanding allows us to observe events more carefully and responsibly. Our position has always been clear: no one will support us if we do not defend our own national interests. The current situation has once again clearly demonstrated this reality,” Kavelashvili said.
The President also reiterated Georgia’s readiness for dialogue with the European Union.
“We must be even more vigilant to emerge victorious from these processes—not victory in confrontation, but victory in preserving peace, preventing radical violence and foreign interference, and strengthening stability and security in our country,” Kavelashvili stated.
He added that Georgia remains committed to development and balanced relations.
“Our approach is simple and principled: first, protect national interests, and within that framework, maintain equal relations with all countries. Our message is clear—we want peace, stability, economic development, and we are ready for dialogue with everyone,” the President said.
Speaking about Europe, Kavelashvili expressed hope that the European Union will overcome its internal challenges.
“Despite the crisis and difficulties facing the European Union, we hope that healthy processes will prevail. Georgia has always aspired to be part of Europe. We believe Europe will find the strength within itself to overcome its challenges and remain what it has been for centuries,” the President concluded.
