President: despite war, occupation, other pressures, Georgians stood up and chose their own path

“Through thick and thin, despite the war, occupation, and other pressures, Georgians stood up and chose their own path,” said the President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, in her address at the Orbelian Palace after the European Commission recommended to the European Council to grant Georgia the EU candidate country status.

According to Zourabishvili, today marks Georgia’s achievement.

“Congratulations, my compatriots. Congratulations here in Georgia and to those of you who are beyond the borders and watching us from there. Congratulations to all residents of the occupied territories, since I know one thing for certain: our European future is also your future,” she stressed.

Zourabichvili expressed confidence that Georgia, Ukraine, and Moldova “will walk together on the EU path and one day become its full members.”

In addition, the President announced the launch of the signature campaign “Our Voice for Europe.”

“The signature is open to everyone regardless of political bias and there is no place for bias in this signature,” she went on.

In her speech, Zourabichvili said that she will leave for Paris to attend the Peace Forum, slated for 10-11 November.

Today’s gathering was also attended by ambassadors from several nations.
