Georgia’s President Mikheil Kavelashvili, accompanied by First Lady Tamar Bagration, visited the St Matthias the Apostle Church Complex in Batumi on Monday.

Metropolitan Dimitri of Batumi and Lazeti received the Presidential couple, alongside the Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara and his spouse.

Metropolitan Dimitri provided the visiting delegation with an overview of the complex’s infrastructure, highlighting ongoing initiatives and future development projects.

According to the presidential administration, the Head of State and First Lady toured the St Matthias the Apostle Gymnasium located within the complex grounds. The church school, established in 2022, currently caters for around 120 pupils, offering a curriculum that blends academic excellence, spiritual guidance, and creative development.

During the tour, President Kavelashvili and First Lady Tamar Bagration inspected the school’s educational and artistic facilities, including a dedicated cinema hall and a mosaic workshop.

The St Matthias the Apostle Complex integrates educational facilities with a monastic community, focusing its efforts on the spiritual, intellectual, and creative development of the younger generation.
