Political polarization in Georgia increased due to radical forces, PM says

The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili, discussed the issue of political polarization in Georgia during a joint press conference with Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

Garibashvili acknowledged that political polarization in Georgia has increased rather than decreased in the year following the definition of recommendations by the EU.

“I must emphasize that despite the recommendations made, polarization in Georgia has unfortunately increased over the past year. Radical forces within Georgia, specifically referring to the party of the previous government, the most anti-European elements, are actively trying to sabotage the process. For them, the potential granting of candidate status to the country is a major point of manipulation. These radical forces aim to destabilize the country to prevent it from obtaining candidate status,” PM said.

The Prime Minister emphasized the Georgian government’s readiness to cooperate with all opposition forces in pursuit of the common goal of obtaining candidate status. He also stressed the government’s commitment to maintaining peace, stability, and prosperity in the country as a top priority.
