PM warns on foreign funding: Everyone must respect Georgian law; transparency breaches will trigger formal legal action

“We intend to investigate this matter thoroughly. If it is ultimately established that our transparency legislation has been breached, we will enact the appropriate legal response,” stated Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.

The Prime Minister’s remarks came in response to questions regarding an educational seminar organised by Armaz Akhvlediani under the auspices of the Tbilisi School of Political Studies.

The question referred to reports that the educational seminar, organised by Akhvlediani, funded by the Council of Europe, and attended by EU Ambassador Paweł Herczyński, may have proceeded without mandatory state approval for foreign funding as required under the Law on Grants.

In this context, Kobakhidze stressed that compliance with domestic statutes is non-negotiable for all actors, including adherence to foreign transparency regulations.

“We will look into this matter with total thoroughness to establish the precise facts. If it is confirmed that the Law on Transparency has been infringed, we will respond with decisive legal action,” the Prime Minister asserted.
