PM urges EU Ambassador to condemn Tbilisi street events: This is his responsibility given statements we've heard
“The EU Ambassador to Georgia has a special responsibility to publicly speak out, distance himself and strongly condemn the events unfolding on the streets of Tbilisi. This is his direct responsibility, especially since we have heard explicit statements supporting an attempt to overthrow the constitutional order,” the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated.
The Prime Minister accused rally participants of acting under external directives.
“They may have their own obligations. When someone acts as a foreign agent, they have no independence — they must follow instructions. Otherwise, such actions would be unthinkable. I do not have a high opinion of their intelligence, but I also cannot believe they would behave this way unless bound by external directives. The only explanation is that they act as foreign agents, unconditionally carrying out the assignments given to them, regardless of the consequences,” the PM said.
According to him, specific individuals from abroad have expressed direct support for the attempt to overthrow the constitutional order.
“Certain individuals have openly voiced support from abroad for the announced attempt to overthrow Georgia’s constitutional order. Among them, the EU spokesperson publicly expressed support for this rally, which has been presented as an attempt to undermine constitutional order. In this context, the EU Ambassador to Georgia bears a special responsibility to speak out, offer his position, distance himself, and firmly condemn what is unfolding on the streets of Tbilisi. This responsibility is especially important given the direct statements we have heard supporting such actions. We will see how they respond to this challenge,” Kobakhidze concluded.
