Anaklia Port Director: Dredging seabed to 17.5 metres will give Anaklia competitive edge in the Black Sea

“Dredging the seabed to a depth of 17.5 metres will enable the port to accommodate the largest-capacity cargo vessels operating in the Black Sea, giving Anaklia a distinct competitive edge over rival regional ports,” declared Zurab Sichinava, Director of Anaklia Sea Port LLC.

Sichinava noted that two specialised vessels from the fleet of Belgian maritime contractor Jan De Nul Group, the Al-Idrisi and the Tristao Da Cunha, are working in tandem to carry out capital dredging operations at Anaklia.

“Alongside the dredging operations, construction of the breakwater is underway. The breakwater will stretch 1,376 metres, shielding the harbour basin from ocean swells and ensuring safe vessel manoeuvring inside the bay. Construction of the breakwater is currently progressing on the landward side, where the main core of the first section is being built. As soon as land-based operations are concluded, construction will shift offshore into the sea,” Sichinava stated.
