Seven arrested as police seize exceptionally large quantity of narcotics

Officers from the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) have arrested seven individuals on charges of illegal purchase, possession, supply, and facilitation of the sale of exceptionally large quantities of narcotics, as well as the illegal cultivation of plants containing controlled substances.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, operational measures and investigative proceedings established that the suspects deposited narcotics at pre-selected drop-off points before transmitting the corresponding GPS coordinates and descriptive photographs to prospective buyers.

“Under a judicial warrant, law enforcement officers conducted a controlled purchase of narcotics from one of the suspects, backed by covert audio and video recording.

Among those detained is an individual targeted in an operation where officers intercepted and replaced an incoming postal package, seizing a large quantity of narcotics as material evidence.

Following searches of the suspects’ personal belongings, temporary residences, and designated drop-off locations, police seized exceptionally large quantities of various narcotics packaged and prepared for distribution. The seized substances include Methadone, Alpha-PVP, Buprenorphine, marijuana, and cannabis plants.

Materials required for packaging narcotics were also recovered during the investigative proceedings.

The investigation is ongoing under Articles 260, 260⁴, and 265¹ of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which carry penalties of up to 20 years or life imprisonment,” the official statement reads.
