The German Armed Forces have carried out an observation flight over Georgia under the Treaty on Open Skies, the German Embassy in Georgia said. The mission was flown on a German A319 OH observation aircraft in cooperation with France, Canada, Italy, Latvia and Georgia.

The embassy said other states party to the Open Skies Treaty can use the aircraft for various missions.

“The Treaty on Open Skies allows its 32 member states to conduct unarmed observation flights over the entire territory of other member states. To ensure maximum transparency, representatives of the country concerned and a multinational inspection team are always on board. It is a powerful instrument that has helped preserve peace and prevent misunderstandings for decades,” the embassy said.
