PM: Our goal is to keep Georgian youth and professionals in country
Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze announced that a new technology hub is being created in Kutaisi, calling it an important step in supporting startups. He made the statement during the award ceremony for the winners of the Innovation and Technology Agency’s grant program.
According to him, the government is working to ensure that Georgian youth and professionals can develop and implement their ideas within the country.
“Yesterday we visited Kutaisi, where we are establishing a technology hub to support startups. We have brought world-class accelerators and investors to Georgia for one purpose – so that Georgian youth and professionals can realize their ideas here, in their own country. Your success inspires not only young people but representatives of all generations. This award is both recognition of your achievements and a responsibility to continue developing your ideas. Supporting startups, innovations, and technologies is a priority of the Georgian government, and it will remain so in the future. We will continue to implement concrete initiatives in this direction,” Kobakhidze said.
At the ceremony, 20 successful startups were awarded grants. The Prime Minister stressed that startups are vital for Georgia’s economic growth.
“Startups add special strength to the economy by combining technology, creativity, and knowledge. Supporting them will remain a key priority for us. This enhances Georgia’s competitiveness on international markets. Recently, the public and private sectors have been actively cooperating to create a favorable environment for startups. To encourage this, we simplified tax legislation – granting innovative startups a three-year exemption from income tax. This is a significant step toward strengthening the startup ecosystem, and the government will continue to provide maximum support,” Kobakhidze stated.
