Embassy of Japan: Japan reconfirms support for Georgia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, readiness to continue to cooperate with Georgia

“On the 18th anniversary of the outbreak of the armed conflict in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali Region/South Ossetia in August 2008, the Embassy of Japan expresses its deepest condolences to the victims of the conflict,” reads the statement released by the Japanese Embassy in Georgia.

According to the statement from the Embassy, Japan opposes any attempts to change Georgia’s internationally recognized borders, and consistently supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia.

“The Embassy is concerned about the humanitarian situation in all conflict-affected areas throughout Georgia and underlines the need for full implementation of the resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on June 4th, 2026 ‘Status of Internally Displaced Persons and Refugees from Abkhazia, Georgia, and Tskhinvali Region/South Ossetia, Georgia.’

Japan will continue to cooperate with Georgia as an important partner in maintaining and strengthening a free and open international order based on the rule of law,” reads the statement.
