Speaker: August War illustrated two different worlds: heroism and self-sacrifice of Georgian soldiers and population, and treacherous nature of puppet regime

“Eighteen years have passed since the August war, which wrote one more tragic page in our country’s newest history,” Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili told reporters at Mukhatgverdi Brothers Cemetery.

According to the Speaker, August 2008 was an illustration of two different worlds.

“One is the heroism and self-sacrifice of Georgian soldiers and the population, and the other, the treacherous nature of the puppet regime, which engaged Georgia in a war, abandoned wounded and dead soldiers and peaceful civilians on the battlefield.

They were busy in those days, giggling. Do you remember the August 9 Security Council meeting with Saakashvili, Bokeria, and former members of the Security Council participating? When our hero soldiers fought against the adversary on the battlefield, fell on the battlefield, the population was abandoned, they laughed. This was the picture which the entire of Georgia witnessed,” he said.
