PM Kobakhidze: We’ve provided EC with full evidence that Kulevi complies with sanctions, and we hope it won’t be sanctioned
“We have supplied the European Commission with comprehensive information concerning Kulevi, and this information clearly confirms that the sanctions regime is not being violated there,” Georgia’s Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, told journalists in response to a question regarding the European Commission’s plan for the 20th sanctions package.
According to Kobakhidze, there are no factual grounds to suggest any violation of the sanctions regime.
“We have provided the European Commission with comprehensive information regarding Kulevi, which clearly confirms that the sanctions regime is not being violated there. This is unequivocal evidence that we have shared with the European Union. Therefore, we hope Kulevi will not be included in the sanctions package.
Let’s await the European Commission’s decision. Given that there are no facts indicating any breach of the sanctions regime, I logically believe that Georgia will not be subject to these measures. It is unfortunate if a particular strategic asset is included in the sanctions.
Mikheil Saakashvili was pleased at the prospect of sanctions against Kulevi, but what makes Saakashvili happy does not benefit the Georgian people. What brings joy to the so-called ‘UNM’ does not serve Georgia’s interests.
Exports have increased, and the sanctions regime is being respected. Oil products are imported and, after processing, are exported legally and within the framework of regulations,” Kobakhidze added.
