PM Kobakhidze: We addressed all vital issues for our country at UN
“In our address before the United Nations General Assembly, we delivered our key messages and touched upon all national issues, every issue of vital importance to our country, including one of our foremost national challenges, which is the occupation of our country’s historic regions,” Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told Georgian journalists in the United States.
The Prime Minister highlighted a busy schedule during his US visit, featuring numerous bilateral meetings and addresses at two separate roundtables.
“Our visit to the UN, which proved highly engaging, is drawing to a close. The clear highlight of the trip was, of course, addressing the UN General Assembly. It provided an opportunity to deliver our core messages and address every issue of national importance. Chief among these national challenges is the ongoing occupation of our historic regions. We also highlighted our national progress, including our economic development, touching upon all matters tied to our national interests and domestic agenda.
Overall, the visit went exceptionally well. Alongside numerous bilateral meetings, I had the opportunity to speak at two separate roundtables, where the central theme on both occasions was peace, an essential prerequisite for development.
Additionally, I held several high-level bilateral meetings, including talks with the UN Secretary-General and the Secretary-General of the Council of Europe. I also met with the Vice President and Foreign Minister of Switzerland, who serves as the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, as well as the President of Turkey, the Prime Minister of Armenia, and the President of Serbia.
Crucially, while here, we signed a protocol establishing formal diplomatic relations with Nauru. We thanked the President of Nauru for revoking their previous so-called recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The resulting establishment of diplomatic ties marks a major victory for our foreign policy, and I would like to extend my sincere thanks once again to our entire diplomatic corps.
All in all, this has been a highly successful visit, where our primary objective to properly represent Georgia’s national interests was fully achieved,” stated Irakli Kobakhidze.
