PM Kobakhidze: Symbolic gestures towards specific nations by no means fast-track EU integration
“The European bureaucracy should distance itself from cheap political games and instead focus on offering genuine support to countries like Ukraine,” remarked the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, during a live broadcast on Imedi LIVE.
The Head of Government pointed out that it is widely understood that the specific symbolic gestures being made towards certain nations do not, under any circumstances, translate into an accelerated path to EU integration, and numerous precedents support this reality.
“Geography dictates where trade and transit routes lie, and in reality, there is no viable alternative to this path; therefore, no one can alter geography,” Prime Minister Kobakhidze stated.
“These are simply basic political messages calculated solely for short-term impact. They carry no deeper substance. The same applies to the so-called ‘Super Tuesday’ regarding EU integration. Everyone knows perfectly well that these specific steps taken towards certain countries by no means guarantee a faster route to EU integration, and there are countless examples of this. Some countries have held candidate status and been in the negotiating phase for 15 years, yet some still have seen absolutely no forward progress.
Consequently, these procedures are entirely performative, designed purely for transient political optics, and they yield no tangible economic or substantial political benefits for the countries in question.
Once again, these are nothing more than superficial political games, which is deeply regrettable. The European bureaucracy should distance itself from cheap political games and instead focus on offering genuine support to countries like Ukraine. But where exactly have you seen any genuine care for Ukraine?” Irakli Kobakhidze said.
