PM Kobakhidze: GD to secure over 60% nationwide; our Tbilisi mayoral candidate will also get over 60%
“According to our research, the party [Georgian Dream] is poised to secure well over 60% of the vote nationwide. As for the candidate running for mayor of the capital, I believe our candidate will also surpass 60%,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists at the polling station where he cast his vote.
The Prime Minister asserted that Georgian Dream is expected to enjoy a very strong majority in all municipal councils [Sakrebulo].
“Regarding the election results, our research suggests the party will gain significantly over 60% across the country. As for the mayoral race in Tbilisi, I am confident that our candidate will also receive over 60% of the vote. Both in the capital and nationwide, we anticipate a robust majority in all municipal councils, and we will win the mayoral elections in all 64 municipalities. We have high expectations, and the promise made to secure 64 out of 64 mayoral seats and municipal councils will undoubtedly be fulfilled,” he stated.
Addressing the opposition, Kobakhidze remarked, “In the 2024 parliamentary elections, opposition representatives failed to deliver on any promises; they resorted to leaks, foolish protests, and still refused to accept the election results. This is typical of the opposition’s attitude.”
Irakli Kobakhidze also clarified that election credibility and voter turnout are not necessarily linked.
“Look at the turnout in previous elections. In the 2024 parliamentary elections, they failed to accomplish much. In the end, they resorted to foolish leaks and protests, even when they had nothing substantial to say. When they have nothing to say, even then they do not stop speaking; that’s the opposition’s attitude,” he concluded.
