PM: Economic growth has accelerated beyond last year’s pace, driven by reforms and anti-corruption measures

“The pace of economic growth has accelerated even compared to last year, which is a direct outcome of the reforms and structural changes implemented over the past year and a half, including measures aimed at eradicating corruption,” stated Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze while speaking to journalists.

The Prime Minister commented on recent figures from the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat), which recorded record-high figures across several segments of the transport sector during the first eight months of 2026.

“Overall, we are seeing positive economic trends, but I also wish to highlight that within this specific sector, we implemented a series of crucial changes across all areas falling under the Ministry of Economy. These measures have yielded tangible results, including substantial strides taken towards eradicating corruption.

Even in comparison with last year, we have achieved an accelerated rate of economic growth. Last year we closed with a growth figure of 7.5%, whereas current average growth stands at 7.9% at a time when, by all standard logic, this year’s figure ought to have been lower than the last. Generally, as the statistical base expands, the subsequent year’s growth rate logically moderates. Furthermore, if we look across neighbouring countries in the region, economic expansion has slowed down. In our case, the pace of economic growth has accelerated even compared to last year. This, I believe, is the direct result of the reforms and changes carried out over the past year and a half, including in the field of eradicating corruption,” Kobakhidze stated.
