PM: 39,000 IDPs received housing since 2012, but goal remains return to Abkhazia
Since 2012, around 39,000 displaced families in Georgia have received new housing, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced during an event in Kutaisi, where apartments were handed over to internally displaced persons (IDPs).
According to the Prime Minister, the state budget allocated for IDPs has grown significantly, rising from 25 million GEL to 240 million GEL annually.
“The volume of annual investments has increased tenfold. At one time, only 25 million GEL was allocated in this direction, and today it has increased to 240 million. This itself reflects the change in attitude under the new government compared to the old one,” Kobakhidze stated.
He congratulated the families receiving apartments, wishing them a dignified life in their new homes. However, he emphasized that the government’s ultimate goal remains the return of displaced persons to Abkhazia.
“Our main goal is to return to Abkhazia and achieve the unification of our country. I sincerely wish that one day you will return to Abkhazia and live happily there with your families,” Kobakhidze said.
