FM Botchorishvili emphasises UN resolution as vital opportunity to bring Georgia's concerns to global stage
“The UN resolution is an important document for Georgia; this is the best opportunity to raise the issue of Georgia on the international agenda,” stated Georgia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maka Botchorishvili.
She explained that the Georgian diplomatic service has been working tirelessly throughout the year to garner the highest possible support for the Georgian resolution.
“We have observed a growing number of co-sponsors this year, which is very significant. This achievement reflects our intensive efforts with UN member states. We will, of course, continue working to ensure that Georgia consistently receives this support. It is crucial,” the minister said.
Botchorishvili highlighted that the resolution addresses pressing humanitarian issues, including the rights of internally displaced persons resulting from occupation and Russian policies towards Georgia.
“This matter must be kept at the forefront of the international community’s attention. We need ongoing support because we are talking about justice,” she emphasised.
The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution “On the Status of Internally Displaced Persons and Refugees from Abkhazia, Georgia, and the Tskhinvali Region/South Ossetia, Georgia.” In the 2026 session, Georgia’s resolution received support from 107 countries.
