PM: 257 apartments sold in Eagle Hills, 147 to Georgians, only eight to Arabs; opposition’s Arabisation claims disproved

“257 apartments have already been sold in the Eagle Hills development, of which 147 were purchased by Georgians and 110 by foreign nationals, with only eight bought by citizens of Arab countries,” stated Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during today’s government session.

He emphasised that the opposition’s claims that Georgians would be unable to buy apartments in the Eagle Hills project were unfounded.

“Pre-sales have commenced in the Eagle Hills development, particularly in the Krtsanisi area. The opposition claimed the prices would be around 15,000 dollars. They pretended to have better insight than the investor into the final sale prices; however, contrary to their assertions, the starting price was just 1,650 dollars. They vastly overestimated the costs by roughly ten times what was actually planned. These apartments were also accessible to the average Georgian buyer. Do you remember the campaign that was built around this issue? They introduced the term ‘Arabisation’, among other things. They claimed that Georgians would be unable to purchase these apartments and that they would be sold exclusively to Arabs, attempting to stigmatise the project. The opposition predicted that all apartments would be bought by Arabs.

In reality, 257 apartments were sold: 147 to Georgians and 110 to foreigners. If it weren’t for the hysterical campaign waged by our opponents, I am confident that the share of Georgian buyers would be significantly higher. I believe this share will continue to grow. We will keep a close eye on the remaining sales.

As for the so-called ‘Arabisation,’ only eight out of 257 apartments were purchased by citizens of Arab countries. From the very outset, this demonstrates that the opposition’s claims about Arabisation have failed. I would like to remind everyone that this unprecedented investment will boost the Georgian economy by 11 billion GEL and will contribute an average of seven million GEL annually to the national budget. Ultimately, the development of our economy will be reflected in the improved well-being of our citizens,” Kobakhidze concluded.
