Parliament's Deputy Speaker says government-introduced quotas for foreign citizens aim to protect jobs for Georgian nationals

“The quotas introduced by the government for foreign nationals without permanent residency are designed to protect the jobs of Georgian citizens, ensuring that domestic workers are not displaced from high-demand occupations,” said Deputy Speaker of Parliament Nino Tsilosani.

According to Tsilosani, the government is continuing with its efforts to establish appropriate regulations concerning the employment of foreign nationals in Georgia and their right to remain in the country.

“It was of fundamental importance to establish clearly that in those professions and sectors where demand from Georgian citizens is particularly high, foreign nationals should not be in a position to take jobs away from Georgian workers or to displace them in any way. The quotas introduced by the government exist precisely to protect the positions of Georgian citizens. Georgian workers will be the beneficiaries of this decision. And this will not be the last such initiative. We continue to develop appropriate regulations concerning the employment of foreign nationals in Georgia and their right to remain here. All of this will yield the best possible results in terms of migration policy,” said Nino Tsilosani.

The Georgian Government has issued a decree approving the rules governing the granting of the right to work to labour immigrants and self-employed foreign nationals. Under the decree, foreign nationals without permanent residency are prohibited from working in passenger transport, courier services, and tourist guiding.
