Parliament Vice Speaker: Konrad Adenauer Foundation was apparently engaged in activities it wants to hide from the Georgian people
“The Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS) appears to have been engaged in activities it wishes to conceal from the Georgian public and the state,” Parliamentary Vice-Speaker Nino Tsilosani claimed on Friday.
Commenting on the German political foundation’s decision to close its foreign office in Tbilisi, Tsilosani argued that the foreign funding regulations required nothing more than financial and operational disclosure.
“It appears the Adenauer Foundation was carrying out work it does not want the Georgian people or the Georgian state to know about. The core principle under which it was permitted to operate was simple disclosure, disclosing details regarding the amounts and nature of the funding it received,” Tsilosani stated.
“It is unfortunate when a respected German foundation effectively declares that it refuses to disclose to the Georgian public what activities it was conducting, and even more so, what activities it intends to carry out in the future,” she added.
“This is the ultimate litmus test for the Adenauer Foundation’s work, given that no extraordinary demands were placed upon it. Regrettably, such a reputable institution would take this stance,” the Vice-Speaker continued.
The comments followed an announcement by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation that it formally closed its Tbilisi office on 30 September 2026, stressing that it was ‘not a voluntary departure’.
