Parliament Speaker addresses Tbilisi Metro employees: I wish you safe journey, your work is invisible but invaluable

“I congratulate you on the 60th anniversary of the Tbilisi Metro. I wish you a safe journey, stable development and many decades ahead in the service of Tbilisi,” said Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili at the event dedicated to the 60th anniversary of Tbilisi Metro’s establishment.

Shalva Papuashvili extended his gratitude to Tbilisi Metro’s employees, saying their work was invisible but invaluable.”

“I am honoured to stand with you here, celebrating the 60th anniversary of Tbilisi Metro’s establishment. This is a system which has been an integral part of our city’s daily life for six decades. The Tbilisi Metro, launched in 1966, was not just a transportation infrastructure, but a symbol of progress, a modern city, and faith in the future. In an era when Tbilisi was growing rapidly, the metro became a response to the challenges and became the new rhythm of movement, labour, education and culture.

Currently, the metro serves millions of passengers. This is a space which daily shapes the fates of individuals, students, workers, physicians, teachers, and tourists. Each station is unique, has its own history and architectural identity, which makes the Tbilisi Metro not only functional, but also a cultural asset,” he said.

The Speaker noted that modern Tbilisi required a safe, reliable and ecological transport system oriented on development, saying he was confident that the Tbilisi Metro would respond to these challenges with “technological updates, continuous service improvements, and even greater care for passengers.”

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, President Mikheil Kavelashvili, Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, and representatives of the legislative and executive authorities attended the event.
