Parliament rejects establishment of fact-finding commission into Temirlan Machalikashvili's case

The Parliament has rejected an initiative relating to the establishment of a fact-finding commission in connection with the murder of Temirlan Machalikashvili, a 19-year-old youth killed during the special operation in Pankisi Gorge.

Only 30 lawmakers voted for the resolution drafted by the National Movement faction, while three members of the parliament voted against it.

Before the voting, MP Salome Samadashvili called on the Parliament to support the initiative and called it a matter of prestige. The draft resolution was supported by Emzar Kvitsiani, a member of the Georgian Patriots Faction.

The main purpose of the draft resolution was the investigation of the case of Temirlan Makalikashvili, who was killed in a special operation in the Pankisi Gorge. According to the initiators, there are signs of illegal activities of officials, which resulted in the death of Temirlan Machalakashvili.
