The Georgian Parliament hosted an economic forum on the topic “Global Political Changes and New International Economic Agenda- Challenges and Opportunities for Georgia.”
Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili opened the forum. He highlighted that in the current climate of global instability, protecting national interests is of particular importance.
“The government and businesses should be allies in pursuing national interests, which is reflected in social responsibility in the business sector,” he stated.
Shalva Papuashvili focused on cooperation of the government and business, accentuating Georgia’s potential as a connector between Europe and Asia.
“Due to global processes, Georgia may have new opportunities as one of the stable corridors connecting Europe and Asia. Businesses should embrace this trend so that the country’s potential as a connecting corridor can be fully utilized,” he said.
Chair of the parliamentary Economic Policy Committee, Shota Berekashvili and Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze, participated in the panel discussion.
Shota Berekashvili focused on Georgia’s role in the Middle Corridor project and the development of transport and logistics infrastructure.
“Both the business, parliament and government agree that peace has a crucial role in Georgia and the region. Peace creates added value, which contributes to the growth of investments in the country and the development of our country’s economy,” he said.
Nikoloz Samkharadze spoke about Georgia’s foreign policy priorities, the country’s EU integration process and cooperation with partners.
The event was moderated by Giorgi Abashishvili, founder and head of Business Insider Georgia and the Georgian Economic Forum.
