The 11th Convocation Parliament has elected the chairpersons for 16 committees during its first session.
The deputies voted for Gela Samkharauli as chairman of the Agrarian Issues Committee, Rati Ionatamishvili to lead the Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee, and Givi Mikanadze as chairman of the Education, Science, and Youth Affairs Committee. Maia Bitadze was elected chairperson of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee, Shota Berekashvili will head the Sectoral Economy and Economic Policy Committee, and Irakli Zarkua was elected chairman of the Diaspora and Caucasus Issues Committee. Levan Makhashvili became chairperson of the European Integration Committee, while Aleksandre Tabatadze was voted to lead the Defense and Security Committee. Giorgi Kakhiani will head the Legal Affairs Committee, Giorgi Gabunia was chosen as chairman of the Culture Committee, and Irakli Kadagishvili will lead the Regional Policy and Self-Government Committee. Nikoloz Samkharadze will head the Foreign Relations Committee.
Regarding the Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules, Davit Matikashvili was elected chairman. Paata Kvizhinadze will chair the Finance and Budget Committee, Viktor Sanikidze was elected chairman of the Sports Committee, and Zaza Lominadze will lead the Healthcare and Social Issues Committee.
According to the Parliament’s Rules of Procedure, the overall coordination of committee activities is managed by the Chairman of the Parliament. Each committee’s full composition consists of at least 10 members. A committee begins its work when at least seven members are appointed, and a Chairman is elected. Each member of Parliament is required to be part of at least one committee and may not be a member of more than two committees.
