Minister of Economy: Small aviation to contribute to economic growth in regions

“Small aviation, which unites private flights, aviation sport, aviation tourism, and professional training, is significant for us. Georgia has vast potential in this direction,” said Mariam Kvrivishvili, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, during the opening ceremony of the Ambassador Aviation Village project in Kachreti, the eastern Kakheti region.

According to the Economy Minister, the government of Georgia takes important steps for the development of small aviation and creates relevant infrastructure.

“We will also continue subsidizing domestic flights, which fosters increased mobility between regions and facilitates travel for citizens, while simultaneously supporting the development of the tourism industry,” she said.

Mariam Kvrivishvili added that the government announced two significant tenders for the construction of a new internal airport in Kakheti and a new terminal in Mestia, which will contribute to the domestic aviation’s development.

She welcomed the fact that the private sector responds to opportunities offered by the state with its initiatives and investments. She also stressed that the development of small aviation would attract more foreign private pilots and aviation fans.

“Ambassador Aviation Village in Kachreti sets an excellent example for the development of this direction. It unites an airfield, aviation villas and recreational infrastructure. The project’s future plans are worth mentioning: establishment of an aviation school and avia-club. This will contribute to the development of professional skills and abilities,” she said.

Mariam Kvrivishvili expressed gratitude to the project’s authors and investors as well as representatives of various agencies which were involved in the implementation of the project.

She noted that the volume of investment is USD 15 million. The Georgian Economic Development Corporation has made a significant contribution to supporting the project. As a result of the project, 47 new jobs have already been created.
