Papuashvili: Europe must be saved from Brussels before it plunges into a “civilisational abyss”

“The protests in France are the result of governments in EU member states failing to act in their own people’s national interests,” said Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Georgian Parliament.

He said member states are subject to Brussels’ diktat, which forces them to act against their own interests, whether on migration, economic policy or other issues.

“All these policies amount to acting against the people’s interests. The end result is a disgruntled public. Surveys confirm that public trust in governments is very low. Trust in the German government, the French government and the governments of all of Europe’s leading countries stands at around ten per cent. This distrust has found expression in the violence we are seeing on the streets of cities across Europe. We have now witnessed first-hand the reality of the civilisational abyss into which Brussels is currently steering Europe. We see buildings and historic and cultural landmarks being set on fire in Paris, and the violence on the streets of Paris and other cities. This is Europe’s civilisational abyss. The EU today is ruining Europe as a civilisation. Our task, and the core of our criticism of Brussels, is to rescue Europe and safeguard the civilisation we helped forge, as we witness the EU steering Europe towards the abyss. Today, Europe needs saving from Brussels itself, from those at the helm of the EU, so that it does not finally plunge into the civilisational abyss,” Papuashvili said.
