Another attack on the female politician, the attempt to discredit her and the systemic weapon against women – this is the reality the female public figures work in – reads the statement of Nino Lomjaria, Public Defender of Georgia.
According to Lomjaria, blackmailing with the footages depicting private life has become a systemic problem with the personal life, and in response, we have only the ongoing investigations and the society cannot get the proper information.
“This is a gender-motivated crime in our political space and is directed towards female policymakers. Therefore, it’s important the investigation to underline that the crime is motivated by discrimination and the persons, who commit such crimes, to be properly responded in order dissemination of the footages depicting women’s private life not to become the tool of discrimination and abuse of women in the future political system,” Ombudsman said.
According to Nino Lonmjaria, the government is obliged to carry out strict policy and punish the offenders. The society should be informed that the distribution or storage of material, depicting private life is a criminal offense and envisages the strictest punishment.
