No room in Georgian politics for destructive parties, says MP Zviad Shalamberidze on move to ban Gakharia’s party

“Healthy criticism and a constructive opposition are necessary for any government to operate better,” MP Zviad Shalamberidze, a member of the parliamentary majority, told GPB First Channel.

According to Shalamberidze, Georgian politics has no place for a political party that serves destructive ends.

“We welcome constructive criticism from opposition parties, but when destruction comes from one party or another, it directly opposes the interests of state development. Consequently, any party that serves destruction has no place in Georgian politics. This is precisely the determining reason why we are seeking a ban on Giorgi Gakharia’s party,” noted Shalamberidze.

For context, the ruling Georgian Dream party intends to file a constitutional lawsuit seeking a ban on the opposition party Gakharia For Georgia, led by former Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia.
