Nikol Pashinyan – We should protect Armenian-Georgian relations from geopolitical influence

Nikol Pashinyan, candidate for the post of Armenian Prime Minister is answering questions of Armenian lawmakers. MP Shirak Torosyan asked Pashinyan a question about Georgia.

“During the rule of Mikheil Saakashvili, Georgian-Armenian relations had only formal character. Saakashvili gave preference to geopolitical orientation and turned Georgia under the economic and political influence of Turkey-Azerbaijan tandem.

The new Georgian authorities are trying to highlight joint interests in the region. We should try to protect Armenian-Georgian relations from geopolitical influence. . .  I believe that respect of mutual national identity should become the basement for development of Armenian-Georgian friendship,” Pashinyan stated.

Nikol Pashinian is the only candidate for the post of Prime Minister. The ruling Republican Party did not nominate its own candidate. Pashinian needs 53 votes in the 105-seat parliament to win the prime minister’s post.
