The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia has presented a new initiative—the State Program for Agricultural Financing—which is based on an updated, modern approach to supporting the agricultural sector.

The presentation of the program was opened with welcoming remarks by the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, and the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Davit Songhulashvili.

Songhulashvili highlighted the results of consistent state policy over the past decade, noting that institutional, infrastructural, financial, and technical support mechanisms for agriculture have significantly expanded during this period. According to him, this has already been reflected in the growth of both production and exports.

“Today once again demonstrates that, with political will and long-term vision, it is possible to develop a fully new and transformative program for agricultural development. A new, modernized stage of Georgian agriculture is beginning.

Our goal is to fully utilize the potential of the agricultural sector, increase its competitiveness, and strengthen its position in global markets. The Agri-Financing Program was developed through extensive dialogue with farmers and based on best international practices and the country’s real needs.

As a result, we have created a new vision of sector support focused on efficiency and results. The main objective of the program is to accelerate agricultural development, deepen knowledge, promote export growth, and strengthen food security.

This reform will ensure the empowerment of farmers, the production of high-quality Georgian products, import substitution, and increased export potential,” Songhulashvili said.

According to the Ministry, the State Program for Agricultural Financing aims to establish a unified, integrated, transparent, and results-oriented system. Beneficiaries will be selected based on predefined and transparent criteria, ensuring fairness and efficiency.

The program also envisions the targeted selection of priority sectors, enabling optimal resource allocation and maximum results.

It further includes the introduction of modern tools and mechanisms, the development of databases, and the strengthening of monitoring systems. This will ensure continuous analysis of processes, evaluation of results, and effective use of budgetary funds.

Special attention will be given to strengthening the commercialization of agricultural activities, which is expected to support sustainable sector development and enhance the country’s food security, the Ministry noted.
