Natia Turnava, Governor of the National Bank of Georgia (NBG), held a meeting with SWIFT Regional Director and other representatives within the framework of the SIBOS International Conference organized by SWIFT, the National Bank reported.
Discussions focused on key areas of cooperation, including the introduction of SWIFT’s core products in Georgia, the enhancement of payment systems, and the adoption of ISO 20022 standards by commercial banks. The sides also highlighted the importance of joint trainings and closer collaboration.
Turnava emphasized that Georgia’s payment market has made significant progress through the rapid adoption of innovative products.
“We are actively developing payment systems, which will significantly improve the interoperability of Georgia’s financial infrastructure both domestically and internationally. As part of this effort, we are upgrading the country’s main real-time gross settlement (RTGS) system to an advanced level. This will provide a more efficient, functionally enriched, and technologically advanced platform tailored to modern standards.
We are also promoting the development of various innovative payment services, including the introduction of a new Instant Payment System (IPS), which will operate 24/7/365 and ensure immediate fund transfers between accounts,” said Turnava.
During the meeting, she proposed that SWIFT’s national member groups hold a meeting in Tbilisi.
Natia Turnava will deliver a keynote address at SIBOS — the first time in the history of the NBG that its president has been invited as a keynote speaker.
