“We have lived with our Abkhazian and Ossetian fellows for centuries building our state. We believe that we have common values,” said Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili.

According to the President, the government pursues a policy that aims at peaceful coexistence in a united country.

Mikheil Kavelashvili commemorated heroes who sacrificed their lives in the fight for the motherland’s freedom and independence and honored their eternal memory.

“Georgia is a country of ancient civilization, in different eras, we have always had outstanding heroes who were an example of our society. The heroes of the August war are our examples of how Georgian citizens and Georgian soldiers should be. Eternal memory to their souls,” he said, extending gratitude to parents and family members of the heroes.

President noted that in the August 2008 days, Georgia lost territories, villages, people; the adversary occupied Georgia’s territories, and this occupation continues.

“Today, as never before, Georgia is an independent and sovereign country. It has a free, national-interests oriented government, which will do its best to restore our territorial integrity. We pursue a policy which aims to reconcile with our Abkhazian and Ossetian brothers and sisters peacefully, peaceful co-living in a united state and continuation of development.

I am confident that more and more people will share the spirit of our state. There is no reality where anyone can imagine that Georgia will exist without Abkhazia and Samachablo. Everyone in the world should acknowledge that not a single Georgian citizen will ever admit Georgia without these territories; this is an axiom, and nobody rejects it.

Therefore, we all share the spirit. For centuries we have lived with our Abkhazian and Ossetian fellows building our state. We believe we share common values, we have mixed families and we should positively resolve these tragic days. This is our goal, and I am convinced that this process will succeed. Georgia will reunite, and everyone will be represented worthily in this state,” he said.
